Approved Consultants for PAS 100 & Quality Compost Protocol certification

E-mail Print PDF

There are many companies out there that can provide you with consultancy services at commercial rates, however, only a limited number of these have been approved by the Association for Organics Recycling (AFOR) to provide you with specific advice on the PAS 100 and the Compost Quality Protocol requirements and assist you in achieving certification.  These consultants are listed in alphabetical order in the table below.

They have an extensive knowledge  of the Certification Scheme,  the composting industry and they understand the practicalities of managing composting operations under commercial pressures. They also have undertaken the required training by the Association for Organics Recycling and they are regularly in contact with the Association to ensure they are fully aware and up to date on any changes made to the Certification Scheme.

The consultancy provided by the consultants approved by AFOR may include:

  • site visits to advise you on the implementation of PAS 100 and Compost Quality Protocol requirements and procedures, specifically explaining the application pack template documents and records you are required to complete;
  • advising on and reviewing the quality policy, Standard Operating Procedures and HACCP, tailored to the process and its PAS 100 compost grades;
  • checking that you are accepting only allowed biowaste input types from the Compost Quality Protocol;
  • making sure that you use the appropriate ‘Contract of Supply’ templates provided by AFOR or your own equivalent system (which must be easily auditable for any selected compost batches); and
  • making sure that you understand your responsibilities and those of the land manager when compost is supplied to agriculture and field horticulture markets.

In addition, AFOR approved consultants can be very helpful in:

  • advising in the event of any one-off or recurring problems relevant to product quality;
  • assisting, at any stage with preparing documents (e.g. pre-inspection);
  • advising on corrective action in the event of any non-compliance(s) identified by the inspector;
  • after initial certification providing a timetable for sampling and parameter testing on each grade of compost under assessment (according to quantity produced and taking account of labelling plans);
  • advising on on-going compliance in the event of significant changes such as input material types, process type, process management, product type and customer needs; and
  • reviewing and updating compost labelling (contract of supply, product information sheets and bags).

Please note that it is not compulsory that you use such services, but AFOR approved consultants can assist you in gaining certification faster as they have extensive knowledge of the certification scheme requirements.

Commercial approved consultancy activities, fees and expenses must be agreed between you and your chosen consultant before such work commences.
