Introduction of independent sampling
During August 2010 REAL appointed an independent contractor to carry out independent sample taking on behalf of the REAL.
Independent sampling has been introduced as part of the on-going development of REAL's Compost Certification Scheme, for quality assurance purposes. 10% of certified composting processes on the Scheme will be randomly selected by REAL and subject to independent sampling.
If you are one of the selected processes, you will be contacted by the independent contractor within the next months.
The contractor will make contact with you at least 48 hours before the independent sampling and will ask you:
-
copy of the relevant process' Standard Operating Procedures
-
copies of the relevant batch monitoring record sheets, and
-
the name of the laboratory your compost samples are routinely sent to for PAS 100 testing.
The appointed contractor will take a sample from a batch of the principal grade and a sample from a batch of one of the additonal grades (if applicable). Please note that if batches of the right age are not available at the time of the independent sampling, the appointed contractor is entitled to take samples from any batches awaiting dispatch.
The lab will send the test results related to the independent sample(s) directly to you. You will pay the lab the costs associated with testing the independent sample(s) as per your usual arrangements. Once you have received the test results, please send them to your certification body.
The test results of the independent sample(s) will be part of your evidence and can count towards the minimum samples and test results required for achieving (validation) or maintaining (after validation) the three consecutive passes.
