Infections at Work

This article links to a HSE website giving advice on the control of infections.  Since the composting industry produces dust and bio-aerosols that represent hazards to health this site should prove interest to many in the organics recycling industry.   The site has a section dedicated to the waste management industry.

The production of compost leads to the production of both dust and bio-aerosols, both of which represent hazards to human health. The bio-aerosols-can contain bacteria, viruses and fungi.    As the people on these sites work in close proximity to the compost they are at increased risk from these hazards.   This site explains some of the associated risks and precautions in plain English.

This site gives details of potential health hazards at work over a broad spectrum of industries, these is a waste industry specific area on this site.  It is possible to download numerous PDF documents relating to infection control from this site.
