Anaerobic Digestion Strategy and Action Plan

AfOR receive a response from DEFRA following our involvement helping to draw up DEFRA’s Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Strategy and Action Plan
Highlights from the report – The report notes the continued expansion of the AD sector in the year since the joint Government and industry Strategy was launched in June 2011. The report reflects the good progress under the Action Plan particularly in the most critical areas. 21 of the 56 actions in the Action Plan have been completed and most of the remaining will be completed this year. Highlights of the year include –

  • ·         Launch of the 10m AD Loan Fund operated by WRAP, and the award of the first loan under the  fund;
  • ·         Launch of a WRAP programme to support innovation in AD and reduce costs;
  • ·         A new £9.5m programme from the Department for Transport for low carbon trucks and infrastructure;
  • ·         Significant progress towards reducing the costs of connecting AD plants to the gas grid;
  • ·         New permitted development rights for small-scale on-farm AD removing the need for planning permission
