The ORG compiles a list of techniques for European Compost Network
The EIPPC Bureau has requested that the TWG members supply a list of techniques* to populate the multiple choice questions in the final JRC's questionnaire which will be sent out in May 2014 (to find out more about the questionnaire, go HERE).
The ORG has compiled and supplied to European Compost Network a draft, preliminary list of techniques relevant to biological treatments in the UK. This list is quite basic, but a good starting point. ECN will use this and the lists provided by other countriesâ trade bodies to compile a list of common and emerging biological treatment techniques used in Europe that can be submitted to the Bureau.
You can find ORG's list of techniques HERE.
Please let Kiara know if you have any comments on this list or you wish to add further techniques.
* Definition of Techniques (taken from EU CID 2012/119/EU):
âÂÂtechniques and associated monitoring used for:
â preventing emissions to air, water (including groundwater) and soil or, where this is not practicable, for reducing emissions,
â preventing or reducing waste generation.
The techniques described in this BREF chapter are considered the most relevant for the determination of BAT for the activities concerned. They will include both the technology used and the way in which the installations are designed, built, maintained, operated and decommissioned.
The techniques described will cover those which reduce the use of raw materials, water and energy, as well as measures used to prevent or to limit the environmental consequences of accidents and incidents and site remediation measures. They will also cover measures taken to prevent or reduce pollution under other than normal operating conditions (such as start-up and shutdown operations, leaks, malfunctions, momentary stoppages and the definitive cessation of operations).
Since BREFs are not meant to be textbooks on pollution prevention and control techniques, the techniques in this chapter will be described in a concise manner.âÂÂ
