Environment Agency releases the Updated Anaerobic Digestate Quality Protocol

The Environment Agency, with support from WRAP and industry representatives have revised and updated the end of waste Quality Protocol for Anaerobic Digestate (ADQP).

The new document updates the original QP (first published in 2010) to provide greater clarity and additional clarification of acceptable input materials and their associated codes.

The revised QP is applicable in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with a transition period for existing QP producers and users until 10th April 2014.
The Quality protocol is hosted on the Biofertiliser Certification Scheme website which is operated by REAL, a subsidiary company for the Renewable Energy Association.

You can find the ADQP here: http://www.biofertiliser.org.uk/adqp and the press release from the Environment Agency here: http://www.biofertiliser.org.uk/news/updated-anaerobic-digestate-quality-protocol-launched

The BCS has informed the ORG that there will be a transitional period for the producers to bring their systems in line with the new ADQP. This is as follows:

AD operators who apply for certification after 10th February 2014

Transition for AD operators with certified processes or who applied for certification before 10th February 2014

- Any AD process inspected prior to 10th February 2014 will be assessed for compliance with the ADQP 2010 edition.
- Any AD process inspected after 10th April 2014 will be assessed for compliance with the ADQP 2014 edition.
- Any AD process inspected between 10th February 2014 and 10th April 2014 has the option to be assessed for compliance with the ADQP 2010 edition OR against the ADQP 2014 edition.
