12/05/2014 Latest update on the review of the WT BREF and REA's activities

As you may remember, a biological treatment group was activated by the JRC to draft the key chapters of the Waste Treatment BREF. The group is led by Unico Van Kooten (European Compost Network/ECN). REA is part of this group and is working closely with ECN and EBA on the drafting of the chapters.

This is an update on the progress made with the drafting of the chapters and the data collation stage which will take place in the next months.

Chapter 4: Techniques to consider for the determination of BATs ~ Action from REA members required by 20th May 2014

Please find HERE a preliminary Chapter 4 drafted by the ECN experts (including REA) based on guidance documents already available. The chapter provides a catalogue of techniques and associated monitoring used for:

— preventing emissions to air, water (including groundwater) and soil or, where this is not practicable, for reducing emissions,
— preventing or reducing waste generation.

REA has contributed to the drafting of some of the sections. Please let me have your comments by 20th May at the latest.

Chapter 5: BATs for outdoor composting, in-vessel composting, AD and MBT – Action from REA members required by 30th May 2014

Please find HERE the draft BATs that the ECN experts have drafted over the past weeks. These have not changed since my last communication (23rd April). Thanks to those who have already sent me comments. Please send me any feedback by 30th May.
