Consultation on the revised Waste Duty of Care Code of Practice

Defra and the Welsh Government have published a consultation on the revised Waste Duty of Care Code of Practice on the 27th July 2015. The consultation can be found on Gov.uk.

The Duty of Care is a legal requirement for those dealing with certain kinds of waste to take all reasonable steps to keep it safe and is set out in the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (EPA).

Through this consultation they invite your views and comments on whether the revised Duty of Care Code of Practice provides simple, clear and fit for purpose guidance on what those who import, produce, carry, keep, treat or dispose of controlled (household, industrial and commercial) waste have to do to fulfil their legal duty of care obligations.

This consultation is expected to be of interest primarily (but not exclusively) to: waste producers, waste managers, waste carriers, waste brokers, waste dealers, regulators, local authorities, professional and membership organisations, agencies/public bodies, the business/private sector, consultants and charity/voluntary organisations.

The consultation closes on Monday 21st September 2015.

If you would like to participate in this consultation, please complete your responses on the on-line survey. If you would like to contribute to the REA response, please let Jeremy have your comments by 14th September
