Feedback needed on key environmental issues for AD to inform waste treatment BREF

The revision of the Best Available Techniques (BAT) reference document on waste treatment (known as the BREF) is ongoing. This is an EU wide document and once released, the environmental regulator will be enforcing the BAT conclusions set out in the new Waste Treatment BREF.

The document will include associated emission limits (AEL) on identified key environmental issues, either at the general level (general BAT conclusions) or at the process-specific one. There is a need to focus on the key environmental issues for each sector in order to derive BAT conclusions related to the main environmental impacts of the sector.

We would like your feedback on the proposals for key environmental issues for AD. The document is only 2 pages long and includes KEIs as: odour, dust, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia and methane.

Please let Jenny know any comments or feedback by 14th August.

We have heard that the first draft of the revised BREF will be published at the end of the year, we will of course circulate more information as we have it. Details of previous updates on the BREF review are here.

The KEI for composting are being drafted and we will circulate for your comments as soon as they are available.
