Scottish Quality Cereals publish standard for combinable crops

Scottish Quality Cereals (SQC) have published their revised standard for combinable crops which details the requirements for using compost and digestate. They have adopted a similar position as Quality Meat Scotland with regard to requiring material to be PAS100 and/or PAS110 certified and restrictions on the physical contaminants. You can download a full copy of the standard here

The relevant section is:

'Compost produced using feed stock from outside the farm unit must be PAS100 certified. Growers using compost must keep detailed batch records of origin, delivery and application. Home produced compost that is not PAS100 must not include feedstock from outside the farm. Applications must comply with NVZ regulations where applicable.

The physical contaminants that can be found in compost are defined as fragments of glass, metal, plastic or non-stone or man-made fragments. The quality of physical contaminants (by weight) must not exceed half that permitted by PAS100:2011

GN 1.8 Compost is a material produced by a controlled process of biodegradable materials under aerobic conditions (with oxygen). If using compost growers are advised to consult with their merchant before use as some end users are reluctant to accept these treatments

1.9 Digestate must be PAS110 certified and must keep detailed batch records of origin, delivery and application. Applications must comply with NVZ regulations where applicable

The physical contaminants that can be found in digestate are defined as fragments of glass, metal, plastic or non-stone or man-made fragments. The quality of physical contaminants (by weight) must not exceed 8% that permitted by PAS110:2014

GN 1.9 Digestate is a material produced by a controlled process of biodegradable materials under anaerobic conditions (without Oxygen). If using digestates growers are advised to consult with their merchant before use as some end users are reluctant to accept these treatments'
