Targeted visits to composting and AD sites by the HSE in October
Health and Safety standards at composting and AD sites will be under scrutiny from the HSE as they carry out a nationwide visit to sites across the country.

With over 120,000 workers in the waste and recycling sector and a ten times higher than average fatality rate, it is no surprise that the waste sector is under particular scrutiny. In the last five years, there have been 39 worker fatalities within the sector with most of these coming as a result of people being struck by moving vehicles or contact with machinery of which there is much in our sector.
In the link shown at the bottom of this article,  more details on the can be seen in their targeted inspection checklist.

On biowaste sites, HSE inspectors will be particularly looking out for evidence that there is adequate separation between vehicles and pedestrians on site. In addition, inspectors will be looking at guarding and lock off procedures and that adequate staff training is in place and that sufficient risk assessments have been carried out.

Please let know if you are visited and what the outcome was from your visit.
