Health and Safety in Waste Management Conference

17th July, JCB World Headquarters, Rocester, East Staffordshire

The fifth Health and Safety in Waste Management Conference will provide delegates an innovative approach to learning about the burning issues surrounding health and safety in the waste and recycling sector.

Over the seven year period from 2004/5 to 2011/12 there were 120 fatal incidents and close to 4,000 major injuries to workers in the waste sector. With fatalities for employees being ten times higher than the all industry average, this one day conference will involve, inform and engage all to ensure delegates can take a lead in requiring and delivering excellent health and safety in waste management.

The morning plenary session will provide delegates practical guidance on the application of health and safety on a range of waste management facilities and draw on rea-life examples from those who have dealt with and overcome public disasters.

With the waste industry being a priority area for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) this year, the HSE’s Head of Waste, Rick Brunt, will give a keynote address to update delegates with upcoming change in policy and regulation.

"The industry will receive more of our time in terms of inspections, and we will take any necessary enforcement action in accordance with our policies. We also have the WISH forum working on improving things from inside the industry.”  Rick Brunt, head of waste at HSE

After the presentations, visitors will be invited to JCB’s viewing platform to watch a live health and safety demonstration on a built waste site. The choreographed demo will educate attendees on the practical application of the key issues surround health and safety whilst re-creating good and bad practice scenarios.

With limited places available, do not miss out on an opportunity to network and discuss the road map to success in health and safety.

The event is organised in association with the Organics Recycling Group, REA and is supported by Health and Safety Executive and Waste Industry Safety and Health Forum.
