Good practice guide for compost and digestate use (including renewable fertiliser matrix)

This guide is intended to provide farmers and growers with practical advice on how best to use these products as ‘renewable fertilisers’, whilst maintaining crop quality and minimising risks to the environment.  It also includes a simple ‘Renewable Fertiliser Matrix’ with suggested harvest intervals for particular crops.

The guide has been collated for WRAP by ADAS, who have drawn on significant programmes of desk-based and field research. The document is currently an advanced draft in a simple format, but it will be subjected to full design work-up once the text is finalised.

WRAP has approached the following organisations to seek their feedback on the draft guide’s language and content, as well as a request to use their logos to ‘co-badge’ the final version:

• British Retail Consortium
• Red Tractor Assurance
• NFU
• NFU Cymru
• Farmers’ Union of Wales
• NFU Scotland
• SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College)
• HGCA

This guide should prove to be a valuable tool for farmers. You need take no action, but are welcome to share any thoughts/observations/comments by Friday 30th May.
